Man United eye 23-year-old to replace David De Gea – report
Man United want Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana to replace David De Gea this summer, according to a report
Manchester United have identified Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana as their preferred replacement for David De Gea, according to a report in England.
The Independent is reporting that the Red Devils are under increasing pressure to sell the Spain international given that De Gea has less than a year left on his current deal.
The same article states that Serie A giants Juventus and Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are interested in a swoop to sign the Spanish number one.
According to the same story, Manchester United rate Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak but the 20-time English champions are unwilling to spend a big fee on the £100m-rated Slovenia international.
The Independent report goes on to add that Onana would be available for £40m in the summer transfer window.
The story goes on to add that Manchester United have made Onana their top choice to replace De Gea ahead of FC Barcelona’s second-choice goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.
Manchester United signed De Gea from Atletico Madrid in a £17m deal in the 2011 summer transfer window.
The Spanish goalkeeper was signed to replace Edwin van der Sar but De Gea took a season or so to adjust to the Premier League.
De Gea has been one of the league’s best goalkeepers in the past four or five seasons, although he endured an alarming dip towards the end of the 2018-19 campaign.
