Paul Scholes reacts to Anthony Martial signing new Man United deal
The Man United legend believes Anthony Martial's new deal is a great bit of business for the Old Trafford side
Paul Scholes has described Anthony Martial’s new deal at Manchester United as a “great signing”.
The France international has ended speculation surrounding his long-term future at Old Trafford by committing to a contract extension.
The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal that will keep the former AS Monaco forward at the 20-time English champions until 2024.
Martial’s future has been a source of debate throughout the season so far, particularly given his poor form under Jose Mourinho.
However, Manchester United interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has managed to get the best out of the French forward.
He has scored two goals and has made one assist since the Norwegian head coach took over the reins in mid-December.
Former Manchester United midfielder Scholes was delighted to see Martial commit his future to the Old Trafford side for the next four and a half seasons.
“It’s brilliant, he was another player who struggled under previous manager,” Scholes Radio 5 Live.
“We all knew his qualities, I remember talking to [Dimitar] Berbatov, who played at Monaco with him, and he was raving.
“You need a run of games to express yourself and now he’s getting that, he can beat a man, score goals, bring excitement for the fans and that’s the most important thing. It’s a great signing.”
Martial got on the score sheet in a 3-1 win against Arsenal at The Emirates in the FA Cup fourth round last month.
The Red Devils are in fifth place in the Premier League table and two points adrift of Chelsea FC.
Manchester United will take on Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 clash.
