Wayne Rooney sends ‘incredible’ message to Man United about Anthony Martial
The former Man United captain hails Anthony Martial as a special talent

Wayne Rooney has described Manchester United forward Anthony Martial as an “incredible talent”.
The France international is facing an uncertain future at the Red Devils after struggling to hold down a regular starting spot under Jose Mourinho.
Martial was a big hit at Old Trafford when Mourinho’s predecessor Louis van Gaal signed the France forward in a £36m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in 2015.
The 22-year-old scored on his Premier League debut in a 3-1 win over their bitter rivals Liverpool FC at Old Trafford to instantly win over the Manchester United supporters.
However, Mourinho has been critical of Martial’s lack of consistency and work ethic since the Portuguese head coach took over the reins of the club from Van Gaal two summers ago.
Martial has been linked with their Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain and Serie A outfit Inter Milan this summer.
However, former Manchester United captain Rooney appeared to urge the Red Devils to keep Martial at the 20-time English champions.
“I think Martial, ability-wise, is incredible,” Rooney told talkSPORT.
“But I think it’s how do you get the best out of him?
“Knowing Anthony the way I know him I think if you can get the best out of him, he’s up there ability-wise with the best in the league.
“I think sometimes it is difficult to get to know him as a person, as a character because of the way he is. But I think once you do get to know him, you just keep him happy.”
Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table but finished a long way behind champions Manchester City.
The Red Devils have signed Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant in the summer transfer window so far.
