Manchester United will sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernades after the Portuguese Super Cup on Sunday, according to Italian journalist Nico Schira.
The Portugal international’s future has been a source of relentless debate throughout the summer transfer window, but the attacking midfielder remains a Sporting Lisbon player as thing stand.
Fernandes has been linked with just about every club in the Premier League’s top six as his representatives do a seemingly effective job of touting their client to England’s superpowers.
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been listed as the two clubs who have retained an interest in the signing the Sporting Lisbon playmaker before deadline day.
Gazzetta dello Sport reporter Schira has taken to Twitter to claim that Manchester United will sign Fernandes after the Portuguese Super Cup on Sunday.
Schira wrote on Twitter: “All confirmed! After Portugal Super Cup #BrunoFernandes will leave from #Sporting to #ManchesterUnited. For him is ready a contract by €6M plus bonuses a year. #transfers #MUFF #mutd”
Fernandes scored 20 goals and made 13 assists in 33 appearances in the Portuguese top flight last season to attract interest from a host of European clubs.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has looked to since predominantly British talent in the summer transfer window, so a deal for Fernandes would be a departure from his strategy.
Manchester United have signed Swansea City midfielder Daniel James, Crystal Palace full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Leicester City defender Harry Maguire is thought to be on the cusp of a move.
