Man United eye 30-year-old to replace David De Gea – report
Man United are thinking about FC Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen as a replacement for David De Gea, according to a report
Manchester United are considering FC Barcelona’s second-choice goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen to replace want-away David De Gea, according to a report in Scotland.
Scottish media outlet The Daily Record is reporting that Manchester United are interested in the 30-year-old as a potential candidate to fill De Gea’s gloves.
The same article states that Manchester United view the Netherlands international has De Gea’s successor at the 20-time English champions.
According to the same story, the Red Devils would prefer to sign Ajax shot-stopper Andre Onana to secure a long-term replacement for their contract rebel.
But the Daily Record report goes on to say that Ajax are reluctant to sell Onana and have already turned down a bid for the Cameroon international from Manchester United.
Cillessen moved to FC Barcelona from Ajax in a €13m transfer in the 2016 summer transfer window following his impressive performances at Euro 2016.
The Dutch shot-stopper has only made five league appearances in the past three seasons at the Catalan side as he continues to play second fiddle to Marc ven der Stegen.
Cillessen has largely been used in the cup competitions after racking up 31 outings in his FC Barcelona career so far.
Before his move to FC Barcelona, the 30-year-old spent six seasons at Dutch outfit Ajax, winning the league title on three occasions.
