Brendan Rodgers gives latest Man United transfer update on Harry Maguire
Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers gives an update on Harry Maguire amid Man United interest
Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Leicester City’s valuation of Harry Maguire still hasn’t been met despite reported interest from Manchester United.
The England international has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League champions Manchester City and Manchester United in the summer transfer window so far.
Leicester are thought to be seeking a transfer fee in excess of the £75m that Liverpool FC spent on Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk in the 2018 January transfer window.
Maguire moved to Leicester from Hull City in a £17m deal in the 2017 summer transfer window after he impressed for the Tigers in their last season in the top flight.
Asked by Sky Sports News about Maguire’s current situation at Leicester, Rodgers revealed that a “huge club” had failed to meet their valuation for the English centre-half.
“Harry’s a top quality player and no-one has come near the valuation to tempt the club to sell,” Rodgers said.
He added: “The other club interested is a huge club, but he’s a really good guy.
“I’ve been in this position a number of times and it’s never easy but he’s taken part in everything and hasn’t showed anything other than sheer professionalism.
“You’ve seen that tonight with the 45 minutes he played.”
Manchester United have been linked with a host of British talent in the summer transfer window so far, including Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho and Maguire.
The Red Devils made promising Swansea City midfielder Daniel James their first signing of the summer after they agreed an £18m deal with the Championship side.
Manchester United then spent £50m on Crystal Palace full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka to reinforce their defence after conceding 54 times in the Premier League last term.
