Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers gives a fresh update on Man United target Harry Maguire
Brendan Rodgers has underlined that Harry Maguire won’t be sold this summer unless Manchester United meet Leicester City’s valuation of the defender.
The England international has been linked with a move to the 20-time English champions over the past month or so as Manchester United look to strengthen at the back.
Maguire has established himself as one of the best English defenders in the Premier League over the past two seasons at Leicester since his move from Hull City in 2017.
The 26-year-old earned plenty of plaudits for his role in England’s run to the World Cup semi-finals last summer before a 2-1 loss to Croatia in the last four.
Manchester United are thought to have made a bid in the region of £70m for the Leicester defender but the Foxes are holding out for a world-record £90m fee.
Leicester boss Rodgers is adamant that Maguire won’t be sold for less than their valuation of the centre-half.
“The club is in a great state of health because there’s no pressure to sell any player. And if a player does leave Leicester City, the valuation will have to be met,” Rodgers is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.
“We have a top level player, looked at by top level clubs. I respect that because I understand why they would, but there’s been no offer near to our valuation that that would even make us have a look
“How he has handled it has been fantastic. Harry has never wavered.”
Manchester United have already signed two British players this summer after the Red Devils spent £18m on Swansea City midfielder Daniel James before they recruited Aaron Wan-Bissaka in a £50m deal from Crystal Palace.
Solskjaer’s side will start the 2019-20 Premier League season with a home clash against Chelsea FC at Old Trafford on 11 August.
