Manchester United will look to sign Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak to replace David De Gea if their number one leaves this summer, according to a report.
The Daily Mirror, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that Manchester United have identified the respected Slovenia international as the perfect replacement for De Gea.
The same article states that the Red Devils are struggling to negotiate a new deal with De Gea, who is looking to secure parity with the club’s top earner Alexis Sanchez.
According to the same story, the 20-time English champions are refusing to meet De Gea’s demands for fear of setting a dangerous precedent at Old Trafford.
As a result, the Daily Mirror is reporting that there is a genuine fear De Gea will leave Manchester United this summer in a cut-price deal.
The Spain number one has little over 14 months left to run on his current deal at Old Trafford to raise serious questions about his future.
The report concludes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have funds to spend this summer and the Manchester United manager could look to invest in Oblak as the club’s new goalkeeper.
De Gea has been Manchester United’s best player in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era after the Spaniard established himself as one of the Premier League’s top goalkeepers.
