Jose Mourinho warned 29-year-old won’t improve Man United
Steve Nicol doesn't believe Man United should sign Jerome Boateng this summer

Jerome Boateng wouldn’t make Manchester United a better defensive unit, according to former Liverpool FC star Steve Nicol.
The Red Devils have been linked with a potential swoop to sign the Bayern Munich defender in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United have been left frustrated in their pursuit of a new centre-half despite being linked with a host of different defenders this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur have proven tough negotiators over a deal to bring Belgium international Toby Alderweireld to Old Trafford for the 2018-19 season.
Manchester United have also been linked with moves to Leicester City’s England star Harry Maguire and FC Barcelona’s Colombian Yerry Mina.
Boateng emerged as a surprise candidate to improve Manchester United’s defence over the past week or so with Bayern reportedly willing to sell for a fee in the region of £50m.
The World Cup winner has previous experience of playing in the Premier League following his stint at Manchester City.
However, former Liverpool FC defender Nicol doesn’t believe Boateng would improve the Manchester United defence despite his vast experience and history of success.
“Boateng doesn’t make them better,” Nicol told ESPN FC.
“They are one of the best defensive units in the league if not the best. Why are they going to spend £50m on Boateng? It makes no sense.”
Manchester United have signed Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant this summer.
