Daily Record journalist Ian McGarry says Manchester United need at least two more signings to challenge Manchester City
Jose Mourinho believes he needs to more signings if Manchester United are going to challenge Manchester City next season, Ian McGarry has claimed.
The Red Devils finished in second place in the Premier League table last term for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retired.
However, Manchester United ended up a staggering 19 points drift of the Premier League champions to highlight the gap between the rivals.
The 20-time English champions have signed Brazil international Fred in a £52m deal from Ukrainian Premier League champions Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Red Devils snapped up Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot in a £17m transfer from Portuguese side FC Porto to improve his defensive options.
Manchester United have also added veteran England goalkeeper Lee Grant in a £1.5m deal from Stoke City.
Daily Record reporter McGarry believes the Red Devils need to add at least two more signings to their squad to keep Mourinho happy.
“They are leaving it late,” McGarry told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“We know Mourinho is a manger who likes the transfer to be done early in the window. That happened in his first two summer transfer windows. Looking at what has happened this summer, you’d have to say the Man United board are content with where they are.
“Winning the title this season isn’t a huge priority to them. If it was, they certainly would have made more recruitments so far.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge.
The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley last term thanks to Eden Hazard’s winner.
