Man United eye surprise swoop for 23-year-old Championship star – report
Man United are interested in Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, according to a report in England
Manchester United are keeping tabs on Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips as a potential summer signing, according to a report in England.
The Sun is reporting that the Red Devils are interested in the 23-year-old Leeds midfielder following his impressive performances in England’s second tier.
The same article states that Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan has even watched the Leeds star at Elland Road as the 20-time English champions look to identify players who can improve the squad ahead of the 2020-21 season.
According to the same story, the Red Devils can expect to pay a large fee for Phillips after Tottenham Hotspur were reported to have failed with a £27m offer earlier this year.
The Sun highlights that Phillips signed a new long-term deal with Leeds in 2019 to ensure Leeds can demand a premium price for the 5ft 10ins central midfielder.
Manchester United haven’t shown any hesitation with regards to signing players from lower leagues since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment as Jose Mourinho’s replacement.
The Red Devils signed Welsh winger Daniel James in a £17m deal from Swansea City in the summer after his impressive performances for the Championship outfit.
James has already proven a hit in the Premier League following a return of three goals and one assist in nine games.
