Insider gives update on Man United’s interest in 20-year-old Spanish defender
La Liga expert Guillem Balague plays down Manchester United's apparent interest in Espanyol defender Aaron Martin

Guillem Balague has appeared to play down Manchester United’s interest in Espanyol defender Aaron Martin.
Reports in Spain have linked Manchester City and Manchester United with the promising 20-year-old left-back.
Martin has already established himself as a first-team regular at Espanyol since making his debut in October 2016.
Indeed, the promising defender has made eight appearances in La Liga this term to prompt talk of interest from the Premier League.
Manchester City lost summer signing Benjamin Mendy to a season-ending knee injury last month to leave the French left-back sidelined for the next nine months.
Jose Mourinho is using England veteran Ashley Young on the left side of the Manchester United defence as England international Luke Shaw continues to toil at Old Trafford.
While speculation linking Manchester City and Manchester United with a move to sign Martin isn’t too surprisingly given their current issues at left-back.
However, La Liga expert Balague quashed the transfer speculation and put the rumours down to the Spanish defender’s agent attempting to create some interest in his client.
“Aaron must have a really good agent, because he has been linked with Man City without them being interested (yet) and linked with Man United when he hasn’t even reached that level yet,” Balague told Sky Sports.
“Potentially he can become a very good player; he is a regular with the Spain U21s, but has a lot to improve yet. He’s just up and down like young players are.”
Martin has made three appearances for the Spain Under-21 side.
The 20-year-old has progressed through the Espanyol youth set up to break into the first team over the past 12 months.
