Manchester United could sign Antoine Griezmann in a cut-price deal next summer, according to reports in Spain.
Mundo Deportivo, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News, is reporting that Griezmann’s £178m release clause will drop to £89m on 1 July 2018.
The Spanish media outlet suggests that Atletico Madrid could accept a lower offer for the France international to reward his loyalty during the 2017 summer transfer window.
Griezmann was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United but the French forward opted to remain at the Spanish club after Atletico were slapped with a Uefa transfer ban.
Manchester United were forced to rethink their transfer plans after Griezmann signed a new contract to underline his loyalty to Atletico despite flirting with the Red Devils throughout the 2016-17 season.
While the Premier League title contenders will surely be pleased to learn about Griezmann’s release clause but Kylian Mbappe could disrupt Manchester United’s transfer plans next summer.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Paris Saint-Germain forward is keen to see the Ligue 1 giants sign Griezmann next summer to avoid his international team-mate moving to Old Trafford.
Manchester United signed Romelu Lukaku in the summer transfer window and the Belgium international has already signed 10 goals in nine games.
