Phil Neville believes Manchester United could sign Tottenham Hotspur left-back Danny Rose.

The Red Devils have struggled to find a long-term solution at left-back since Patrice Evra left the 20-time English champions in 2014 following a disappointing season under David Moyes.

Manchester United signed promising Southampton full-back Luke Shaw in a £27m deal to make the left-back spot his own but manager Louis van Gaal was initially critical of the England starlet.

Shaw made a bright start to his second season at Old Trafford before he suffered a double leg fracture during Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

Van Gaal’s successor Jose Mourinho was regularly critical of Shaw during the 2016-17 season and the Manchester United boss preferred to use Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young in the left-back role ahead of the 22-year-old.

Manchester United have been regularly linked with a move to sign Rose over the past 12 months or so.

The 27-year-old’s relationship with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has appeared to become fractured in recent months, while Rose has made no secret of his desire to return to northern England.

Former Man United defender Neville believes Rose could end up at Old Trafford given the Red Devils’ current problem at left-back.

“Young is doing fantastic there at the moment and you can’t disrespect that,” Neville told The Debate on Sky Sports on Thursday night.

“Ultimately they have Darmian, Blind, Shaw and Young. It’s the one place in the team up for grabs.”
