Stan Collymore believes the time is right for Gareth Bale to complete a move to Manchester United this summer.

The Wales international won his third Champions League title last weekend as the Real Madrid forward came off the bench to help Zinedine Zidane’s men seal a 4-1 win against Serie A giants Juventus.

Bale scored six goals and made two assists in 17 appearances in La Liga as the forward spent most of the Spanish giants’ title-winning campaign due to injury.

The 27-year-old has been regularly linked with a move to Old Trafford over the past 24 months but Zidane has appeared to back the Welshman.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been linked with a host of big names in the summer transfer market as the Red Devils prepare to return to the Champions League.

Writing in his Daily Mirror column about the possibility of Bale sealing a big-money move to Manchester United, former Liverpool striker Collymore said:

“After years of speculation, the time finally seems right for Bale and United.

“The club have the history and status, the player would be returning to Britain as a Champions League winner.

“It’s a hand-in-glove fit — and what a statement signing him would be for United.”
