Sid Lowe explains why Barcelona want to sign key Arsenal star
La Liga expert Sid Lowe reveals Barcelona want to bring Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin back to the Catalan side this summer
Barcelona are keen to re-sign Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin this summer, according to Sid Lowe.
The Spain international has been linked with a potential return to Barcelona in the summer transfer window less than six seasons after the right-back swapped Camp Nou for The Emirates.
Bellerin has blossomed into Arsenal’s first-choice right-back over the past 24 months to push Mathieu Debuchy down the pecking order at the north London club.
The 22-year-old was named in the PFA Premier League team of the year in 2015-16 after his excellent performances in the Arsenal side.
Bellerin’s form tailed off in the second half of last season amid growing speculation linking the full-back with a return to Barcelona this summer.
La Liga expert Lowe believes Barcelona could complete a deal to re-sign Bellerin just as the Catalan side did with Cesc Fabregas back in 2011.
“It is a deal Barca are very keen on. They want a very quick, attacking right-back,” Lowe told ESPN FC.
“They see him a bit like the Fabregas case. The idea of taking a youth team player back and maintaining the Barcelona DNA.”
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a Champions League spot.
The Gunners did win their third FA Cup in four seasons thanks to a 2-1 win against champions Chelsea.
