Insider claims Man United have increased interest in 25-year-old playmaker
Manchester United have stepped up their interest in James Rodriguez with Ivan Perisic set to remain at Inter Milan, according to reports
Manchester United have increased their interest in Real Madrid star James Rodriguez, with Ivan Perisic set to remain at Inter Milan.
ESPN FC reporter David Amoyal is reporting that Manchester United are still monitoring Colombia international Rodriguez in the summer transfer window.
The same article states that Manchester United were thought to interested in signing Perisic from Inter Milan but Luciano Spalletti’s appointment as manager means the winger could stay.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder was omitted from Zinedine Zidane’s squad for Real Madrid’s 4-1 win against Serie A giants Juventus in the Champions League final at Wembley.
Rodriguez has been linked with a potential move to the Premier League in recent weeks amid reported interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.
Writing in his ESPN FC column about the likelihood of Manchester United signing Rodriguez, Serie A expert Amoyal said:
“While the Colombia international was linked to numerous clubs last January, it wasn’t surprising that Real Madrid held on to him in light of their transfer ban, which has now expired.
“Considering that Rodriguez has become an afterthought in Zinedine Zidane’s line-up, a move this summer is very likely.
“While AC Milan have approached his agent Jorge Mendes, the costs would be enormous for them.
“Manchester United, on the other hand, would have no problem signing him from a financial standpoint and considering that Inter’s new coach Luciano Spalletti wants to keep Ivan Perisic, the Red Devils’ interest in James has only increased.”
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season after a disappointing top-flight campaign.
However, the Red Devils still qualified for the Champions League after winning the Europa League crown.
