Ryan Giggs has claimed that he told Manchester United to sign France sensation Kylian Mbappe and Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus three years ago.

The former Red Devils midfielder worked as Louis van Gaal’s assistant manager for two seasons at Old Trafford before the Dutch coach was sacked in May 2016.

Giggs is widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s greatest players after having broken into the Manchester United team as a prococious teenager under Sir Alex Ferguson in 1992.

The retired Welshman knows a thing or two about talented teenagers given his emergence at Old Trafford and the success of the “Class of ’92” at the Red Devils.

Mbappe has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting players after the 19-year-old scored 26 goals in 44 games in all competitions to help AS Monaco win the Ligue 1 title and reach the Champions League last four.

Jesus, on the other hand, has netted 15 times in the Premier League since the talented 20-year-old Brazilian forward moved to Manchester City from Palmeiras in January 2017.

However, Manchester United could have signed both Jesus and Mbappe if Giggs had his way after the Red Devils legend recommended both forwards to the 20-time English champions during his time working as Van Gaal’s assistant coach.

“I watched Gabriel Jesus play three years ago. I watched Mbappe for a year. I was watching them with the scout and it was a no-brainer,” Giggs told The Times.

“It was just like ‘get them’. It would have been £5m or something – get them, loan them back – and that’s where the recruitment could have been better.”
