Paul Merson admits surprise Man United didn’t make £100m offer for top striker
The Arsenal legend believes Manchester United should look to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur this summer
Paul Merson has admitted his surprise that Manchester United haven’t made an offer for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.
The Red Devils finished in sixth place in the Premier League table in Jose Mourinho’s first season in charge at Old Trafford.
Manchester United won the EFL Cup thanks to a 3-2 win against Southampton at Wembley courtesy of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s double.
Mourinho’s side secured a return to the Champions League thanks to a 2-0 win against Ajax in the Europa League final last month.
Manchester United have been linked with a move to sign a striker in the summer ahead of Ibrahimovic’s anticipated departure.
The Red Devils ended their interest in Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann earlier this month.
Manchester United have also been frustrated in their efforts to sign Everton star Romelu Lukaku and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata this summer.
Speaking to Sky Sports about Manchester United’s quest to sign a striker, former Arsenal midfielder Merson suggested Kane as an option.
“I honestly thought Man United would have gone for Harry Kane. I thought they would have gone £90m or £100m for him,” Merson told Sky Sports News HQ.
Kane scored 29 times in 31 games in the Premier League last term.
