Agent suggests Man United, Man City interested in promising 22-year-old forward
Manchester United are rivalling Manchester City for Lazio forward Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to his agent Mateja Kezman
Manchester United and Manchester City are both interested in Lazio forward Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to the player’s agent.
The Serbian attacker has been linked with a potential move to the Premier League in over the past 12 months or so since establishing himself as an important member of Lazio’s starting XI.
Earlier in the summer, The Sport Review exclusively revealed that Milinkovic-Savic was linked with a £24m move to Liverpool but a deal failed to materialise.
The 6ft 2ins forward scored seven goals and made 11 assists in 39 appearances in all competitions last season to prove a key player for the 2000 Serie A winners.
Milinkovic-Savic has made one goal in four Serie A appearances this term and has been used more as a box-to-box midfielder over the past 12 months for the Super Eagles.
Former Chelsea striker Kezman is the Lazio forward’s agent and the retired forward confirmed that there is interest from Manchester in his client.
“There’s been a lot of interest from several clubs, such as those in Madrid, Manchester and Milan,” Kezman told SFR Sport, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.
“But he wants to be happy, to play to keep growing and become one of the best in his role.
“It’s difficult to see him away from Lazio, where he has started the season very well, but I can’t rule out him leaving.
“If Milinkovic-Savic keeps this up, there will be plenty of contact from different clubs, like there was [in the summer].
“We’ll see what happens but, for now, what matters is that he’s growing under [Simone] Inzaghi, who’s a great coach.
“Right now, Milinkovic-Savic is happy to continue his adventure in Rome with Lazio. Igli Tare is sometimes criticised, but he’s done a great job.
“He signed some great players and sold those that weren’t happy at extraordinary prices; now Lazio’s bench is better and they can fight to finish in the top two and win the Europa League.”
Manchester United signed three players in the summer transfer window as Jose Mourinho looked to improve upon their sixth-place finish last term.
Manchester City are sitting at the top of the Premier League table but level on points with Manchester United.
