Manchester United will announce the signing of Victor Lindelof from Benfica next week as their first summer signing, according to reports in Portugal.

Portuguese newspaper Correio de Manha, as quoted by Metro, is claiming that the Red Devils are on the verge of being able to announce the defender as their first signing of 2017.

The 22-year-old has been touted as a possible target for the Red Devils for some time but a move has thus far failed to materialise.

Sweden take on France in a World Cup qualifier next Friday 9 June and the report claims that Lindelof wants to focus on that game before turning his attentions towards completing his transfer.

The report states that Manchester United will then announce the signing of the defender in a deal worth around £35m.

Manchester United have been linked with a host of players in recent weeks as Jose Mourinho looks to prepare his side for a return to the Champions League next season.

The Red Devils did not bring in any new players at all in the January transfer window despite making four major signings last summer.
