Man United ready to pay £60m to sign 25-year-old in January – report
Manchester United are keen on a move to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester City in January, say reports
Manchester United are willing to part with a £60m fee to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester City in the January transfer window, according to reports in the British media.
The Sun is reporting that the Red Devils are prepared to spend big to try and bring the 25-year-old defender to Old Trafford in the new year as Jose Mourinho looks to add to his rearguard options.
Manchester United were heavily linked with Maguire in the summer transfer window, but a move failed to materialise and the England centre-half signed a new five-year contract with the Foxes back in September.
However, the same report says that Manchester United are now ready to “test” Leicester City’s resolve once more with a fresh offer when the January transfer window opens next year.
The story claims that Manchester United would be capable of doubling Maguire’s current wage of £75,000 a week.
Maguire has scored two goals and picked up three bookings in 10 Premier League appearances for Leicester City so far this season.
Manchester United were heavily linked with defensive reinforcements in the summer window but the Red Devils did not bring in a new central defender.
Mourinho’s men have made something of a stuttering start to the new campaign, and that will likely lead to plenty of speculation about potential new recruits in January.
It is claimed in the same report that Manchester United “believe” that they would be able to clinch the signing of Maguire for around £60m, which would make him the second-most expensive defender in the world.
Meanwhile, Manchester United will return to Premier League action on Saturday when they travel to Bournemouth in the day’s early kick-off.
