Manchester United will invest heavily in their squad in the January transfer window after their poor start to the new season, according to reporter Mark Ogden.

The Red Devils have been widely criticised for making a poor start to the new campaign, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men having only won two of their opening eight games in the top flight.

Manchester United crashed to their third Premier League defeat of the season on Sunday when they went down 1-0 at Newcastle United due to Matty Longstaff’s second-half goal.

Solskjaer’s side are down in 12th place in the Premier League table and they already find themselves a staggering 15 points behind leaders Liverpool FC.

The January transfer window will present the Red Devils with the chance to make some crucial reinforcements at the midway point of the season.

And ESPN FC football writer Ogden seems to think that the Red Devils are set to spend big in the new year.

Speaking to ESPN FC, as quoted by the Daily Express, Ogden said: “It’s Manchester United, they’ll go out and sign players in January to get out of the mess.”

He continued: “The problems run deeper at the club than the current squad.

“It probably goes back to Sir Alex’s days, when he made bad signings in the transfer market – Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, they’re still there in all intensive purposes. Why?

“They haven’t made the right decisions in ten years or so now.”

Manchester United will return to Premier League action after the international break with a crunch clash against Liverpool FC at Old Trafford on Sunday 20 October.

The Red Devils are aiming to try and break back into the top four this season after they finished sixth and without a trophy last term.
