Former Man United star Bastian Schweinsteiger says Paul Pogba should be allowed to leave Old Trafford
Bastian Schweinsteiger believes Paul Pogba should be allowed to leave Manchester United this summer.
The France international’s future has been a source of relentless speculation in the summer transfer window so far.
Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola fuelled talk of a move away from Old Trafford when he confirmed the World Cup winner wants to leave earlier this summer.
The Red Devils star has been persistently linked with a potential big-money move to La Liga giants Real Madrid.
His former employers Juventus are also been touted as a potential destination for the 26-year-old.
However, Pogba remains part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United set up with 11 days left until their season opener against Chelsea FC at Old Trafford on Sunday 11 August.
Former Manchester United midfielder Schweinsteiger believes the Red Devils should allow Pogba to quit the club if the France star has his heart set on a move.
“If a player wants to leave the club, you shouldn’t stop him,” Schweinsteiger told BBC Sport.
“You need players who are 100 per cent into the club and care about the club, that’s the only way you can survive at the top level and have success.
“Paul is a great player, he is just looking for a team where he can play the same style that he does with the France national team, so if you give him that kind of team around him, he would be happy at United.”
Manchester United signed Pogba in a club-record £89m deal from Serie A giants Juventus in the 2016 summer transfer window.
The record signing won the Europa League and the League Cup in his first season at the 20-time English champions.
But Pogba has failed to build upon that platform due to a series of inconsistent performances and niggling injuries.
