Journalist Ian McGarry has admitted that he wouldn’t be surprised if Paul Pogba ends up signings a new long-term deal with Manchester United.
The France international has been linked with a potential move to La Liga giants FC Barcelona over the past couple of weeks.
Pogba has struggled to justify his £89m club record transfer fee during the versatile midfielder’s two seasons back at Old Trafford.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has been willing to criticise Pogba in the British media to race questions about his future at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils star impressed during the World Cup as France eased to 4-2 win over Croatia in the World Cup final.
Pogba’s stock is high following his performances in Russia to fuel speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United.
Daily Record reporter McGarry believes Pogba could end up signing a new contract with Manchester United to secure his long-term future at Old Trafford.
“If Pogba stays beyond the August deadline, Raiola’s agent is to get Pogba an upgrade in his contract where we see Pogba becomes the best paid player at Man United,” McGarry told the Transfer Window podcast.
“If that happens, I think we will see a breakout of peace between Pogba and Mourinho and Raiola and Man United.”
Manchester United re-signed Pogba in a £89m deal from Serie A giants Juventus in the 2016 summer transfer window.
The Red Devils signed Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke goalkeeper Lee Grant.
The 20-time English champions finished in second spot in the Premier League last term.
