Roy Keane says Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen won’t improve the Manchester United team.

The Spurs playmaker is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2019-20 Premier League season unless Tottenham are able to resolve Eriksen’s contract situation.

The Denmark international hasn’t committed to a long-term deal amid reports linking Eriksen with a move to a host of top European clubs, including Manchester United and Real Madrid.

The Red Devils were touted as a potential destination for Eriksen earlier this month as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to improve his options in the middle of the park.

Eriksen produced a subdued performance in Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool FC at Anfield on Sunday evening.

And former Manchester United captain Keane believes the Red Devils shouldn’t sign Eriksen.

“Not if I were the Manchester United manager,” Keane told Sky Sports when asked if he thinks the Red Devils should sign Eriksen. “I think he will get a move, he’s on a free.

“But I don’t think he’d improve those teams and that’s the key for a club like Manchester United who are trying to close the gap.

“He won’t make Man United better, but having said that, Man United bought Fred.”

Eriksen moved to Tottenham in an £11m deal from Dutch side Ajax in the 2011 summer transfer window.

The Danish playmaker has scored 66 times in 277 games in all competitions over the past six seasons.

Eriksen hasn’t won any silverware since his move to Spurs.

Spurs are in eleventh spot in the Premier League table and eight points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea FC.

Manchester United finished behind Tottenham in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a Champions League spot.
