Manchester United are prepared to pay Samuel Umtiti’s £54m (€60m) release clause at FC Barcelona this summer, according to reports in Spain.
Spanish newspaper Sport, as quoted by talkSPORT, is reporting that the Red Devils are ready to make a move to sign the defender as Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen his rearguard options at Old Trafford.
The same report says that Manchester United would also be prepared to double Umtiti’s wages should he secure a move to Old Trafford and that they are prepared to offer him around £150,000 a week.
According to the same story, Mourinho is a “big fan” of the 24-year-old France international, who has made 19 La Liga appearances for FC Barcelona so far this season.
Manchester United are bound to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks and months as the summer transfer window draws ever nearer.
The Red Devils are likely to bring in a number of players this year as Mourinho looks to assemble a team capable of challenging Manchester City’s dominance at the top of the Premier League table next season.
Meanwhile, Manchester United will host Sevilla in the return leg of their Champions League clash on Tuesday night.
