Sky Sports pundit: How Alexis Sanchez can get best out of Man United striker
Danny Higginbotham believes Alexis Sanchez will bring out the best in Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku
Alexis Sanchez could help to bring out the best in Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku, according to Danny Higginbotham.
The Chile international is rumoured to be closing in on a move to the Red Devils from bitter rivals Arsenal to bolster Jose Mourinho’s attacking options.
The 29-year-old has less than six months remaining on his current Arsenal deal and will be available on a free transfer in the summer.
Sanchez was initially linked with a move to the Premier League leaders Manchester City, but Manchester United are thought to be in pole position to sign the South American.
The two-time FA Cup winner would be an attacking option for Mourinho alongside Belgian forward Lukaku and veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Lukaku has scored five times in his last 10 games after going through a difficult spell in November and December.
Former Stoke defender Higginbotham claimed that Sanchez will bring out the best in summer signing Lukaku.
“Lukaku is getting a rough deal at the moment. His movement [against Stoke] to create space,” Higginbotham told The Debate on Sky Sports on Wednesday night.
“He was going into unselfish positions to create space runners. If Sanchez is doing that running, Lukaku can stay where he wants to stay. He would be an unbelievable signing.”
Manchester United signed Lukaku in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Everton in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils won the Europa League and the League Cup in Mourinho’s first season in charge.
Manchester United are in second place in the top-flight table.
