Jose Mourinho wants Man United to make two defensive signings in January – report
Manchester United are interested in deals to sign Serie A's Milan Skriniar and Alessio Romagnoli in the January transfer window, according to ESPN
Jose Mourinho is set to target Serie A’s Milan Skriniar and Alessio Romagnoli to improve his Manchester United defence in the January transfer window, according to a report.
ESPN is reporting that the Red Devils are plotting a raid of the Italian top flight to address the clear issues at the back in the current Manchester United team.
The same article states that Mourinho is hoping the Manchester United board will be receptive to potential deals for Skriniar and Romagnoli given both Serie A players are 23.
According to the same story, AC Milan’s Romagnoli and Inter Milan’s Skriniar would be available to feature for Manchester United in the Champions League knockout stage should deals materialise for the duo.
Skriniar was part of the Inter Milan side that came from 1-0 down to beat Tottenham Hotspur in their opening Champions League fixture at the San Siro back in September.
Inter’s number 37 has scored four times in 44 games in all competitions since his move to Serie A side from Sampdoria in a €20m deal at the start of the 2016-17 season.
Romagnoli, who was linked with Chelsea FC in the summer transfer window, has started six times in the Italian top flight this term to build a promising reputation at the seven-time European Cup winners.
Skriniar and Romagnoli will go head-to-head after the international break when AC Milan take on Inter Milan in the San Siro derby on Sunday 20 October.
ESPN go on to suggest that Manchester United would have to spend around £40m on each Serie A defender if the Red Devils are to lure the promising duo to the Premier League.
Manchester United’s current centre-halves Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have all struggled so far this term to raise questions about their failure to sign a top-class centre-half in the summer.
