Manchester United are keen to appoint a new technical director in the next two weeks to help them get transfers over the line, according to reports in the British media.

The Sun is reporting that Old Trafford chiefs are looking at candidates to help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sign the players he needs to bolster his squad this summer.

The same article says that the Red Devils have already held talks with club legends Rio Ferdinand and Darren Fletcher as potential candidates.

According to the same story, the Manchester United hierarchy want a new technical director in place before the Red Devils begin their pre-season tour of Australia on 8 July.

It is also suggested that executive vice-chairman wants the role of approving deals rather than being directly involved in them.

Manchester United are thought to be on the lookout for a number of new players this summer as they look to strengthen their squad.

The Red Devils have already brought in midfielder Daniel James from Swansea City as their first signing of the summer.

Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy last season after Solskjaer was brought in to replace Jose Mourinho back in December.
