Jose Mourinho has taken Fabinho and Tiemoue Bakayoko off his list of potential Manchester United midfield signings this summer, according to reports.
The Manchester Evening News is reporting that the Red Devils boss has singled out Eric Dier or Nemanja Matic as his preferred recruits in midfield as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of next season.
The same report states that claims Manchester United were interested in beating Chelsea to the signing of Bakayoko were completely false, with the Red Devils manager now wanting to bring in either Dier from Tottenham or Matic from the English champions.
It would seem that Mourinho is keen to bring in a midfielder with proven Premier League experience as he gears up for his second season in charge at Old Trafford.
The same story says that Manchester United’s signing of Romelu Lukaku ahead of Chelsea could dent the Red Devils’ hope of landing Matic from the west London club this summer.
The report says Mourinho remains “fixed” on either signing Dier or Matic this summer as he looks to bolster his options in midfield.
