Manchester United are confident of beating Liverpool FC to the signing of German striker Timo Werner, according to a report in England.

The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Red Devils are interested in a swoop to sign the Germany international to solve their striker crisis.

The same article states that Manchester United could face competition of Liverpool FC, who have been linked with Werner since Jurgen Klopp’s appointment in 2015.

According to the same story, the 20-time English champions are hopeful that the promise of regular first-team football could tempt Werner to move to Old Trafford over Anfield.

The Daily Mirror go on to add that Werner would fit in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans for Manchester United.

Manchester United are short on attacking options after the Red Devils sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan in the summer before Alexis Sanchez moved to the San Siro side on loan.

Werner has scored 59 goals in 103 games in the Bundesliga since his move to RB Leipzig from VFB Stuttgart in 2016-17.

The Germany international has experience in the Champions League and the Europa League during his time at RB Leipzig.

Manchester United lost 1-0 to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday evening after Joshua King’s winner in the first half.

The Red Devils are in tenth place in the table.
