Latest update on Man United’s link to signing quality 28-year-old – report
Manchester United are wary of trying to negotiate with Tottenham Hotspur about signing Toby Alderweireld, say reports
Manchester United have “reservations” about trying to sign Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur this summer because of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, according to reports in the British media.
The Independent, as quoted by the Daily Star is reporting that the Red Devils are strongly interested in signing the 28-year-old defender from Spurs as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his rearguard options this summer.
According to the same story, it is “likely” that the Belgian defender will leave White Hart Lane in the summer transfer window after talks with the north London club over a new deal stalled.
The report also says that the defender’s current deal runs out in 2020, but he will be available for £25m in the summer of 2019.
However, according to the same story, Manchester United are reluctant to have to negotiate with Spurs chairman Levy.
It is also claimed that Manchester United could be set to face competition from FC Barcelona for Alderweireld’s signature this summer as well.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are currently enjoying a week off before they return to Premier League action on Monday night with a trip to Crystal Palace in the top flight.
Mourinho’s men were impressive 2-1 winners over Chelsea FC in the Premier League on Sunday as they boosted their top four hopes and moved into second place.
