Manchester United want Zlatan Ibrahimovic to bolster their attacking options at the club, according to a report
Manchester United have contacted Zlatan Ibrahimovic about a return to Old Trafford in the January transfer window, according to a report in Italy.
Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, as quoted by the Daily Express, is reporting that Manchester United are desperate to sign a striker in January.
The same article states that the 20-time English champions have made contact with Ibrahimovic about a potential transfer to Manchester United from Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy.
According to the same story, the 38-year-old is set to become a free agent in the next couple of months, although the MLS side a planning to offer Ibrahimovic a new deal worth £6m a year.
The report goes on to add that Manchester United could face competition from Serie A giants Inter Milan and Napoli for the former Sweden international’s signature.
Manchester United have also been linked with Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic over the past couple of months.
However, the story suggests Ibrahimovic could be a more likely candidate to move to Old Trafford than Mandzukic given his previous one and a half seasons the club.
Ibrahimovic scored 29 times in 53 games for the Red Devils during the 2016-17 season as Manchester United won the League Cup and the Europa League under Jose Mourinho.
