Michael Owen is backing Manchester United and Chelsea FC to play out a 1-1 draw in their Premier League opener at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils will look to start Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first full season in charge with a victory over their bitter rivals.

Chelsea FC appointed their record goal-scorer Frank Lampard as their new manager earlier this summer after Maurizio Sarri’s departure.

Manchester United have managed to bolster their squad with the additions of Swansea City winger Daniel James, Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Leicester City defender Harry Maguire.

Chelsea FC are currently serving a two-window transfer ban from Fifa but the Blues were able to add Christian Pulisic and Mateo Kovacic to their squad after deals were agreed before the punishment was handed out.

Former Manchester United striker Owen is tipping the Red Devils to draw their season opener with Chelsea FC at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

“The world’s most expensive defender Harry Maguire is likely to make his debut for Manchester United against Chelsea in a fascinating conclusion to the opening weekend of the season,” Owen told BetVictor.

“United picked up just seven points from their 10 games against the other ‘big six’ clubs last season, but they will be looking to begin their campaign with a bang, having ended last season so tamely.”

Owen added: “Chelsea have lost Eden Hazard to Real Madrid but, even though they are embargoed from signing players this window, they are likely to give American Christian Pulisic his debut on Sunday.

“New Blues boss Frank Lampard has several exciting young English players at his disposal although I am sure he would like to have World Cup winner N’Golo Kante back from injury for the trip to Old Trafford.”

Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term after the Red Devils conceded more goals than Manchester City and Liverpool FC combined last term.

Chelsea FC secured third place before Sarri’s side won the Europa League thanks to an emphatic 4-1 victory over Arsenal in Baku back in May.
