Charlie Nicholas is backing Manchester United to ease to a narrow 1-0 victory over Chelsea FC in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils will be hoping to get their first full season under Solskjaer’s management off to a positive start following a disappointing end to the 2018-19 campaign.

Manchester United have signed Swansea City winger Daniel James, Crystal Palace full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Leicester City defender Harry Maguire this summer.

The 20-time English champions finished in fourth spot in the Premier League last term and 32 points adrift of title winners Manchester City to highlight their demise.

Chelsea FC appointed Frank Lampard as their new manager in the summer after Italian coach Maurizio Sarri opted to return to Serie A with champions Juventus.

The Blues have been unable to sign new players due to their transfer ban but the west London side have added Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic to their squad after agreeing to deals earlier this year.

Former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas is backing Manchester United to ease to a 1-0 victory over Chelsea FC in their Premier League opener at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

“What an absolute belter of a game to start the campaign,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is trying to get certain players out and certain players in. We will know the formation and style by Sunday. Romelu Lukaku is going and he will have to sell Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez too – he has another three weeks or so to do that.

“Chelsea are under the transfer embargo and so the youngsters will come in. If they lose Luiz, they will have issues defensively. Chelsea will want to go to Old Trafford and walk away with something, with Frank Lampard getting through his first assignment without a defeat to his name.

“Solskjaer wants the crowd to believe they are better. I don’t think United are, so I am going to go for a low-scoring affair. I am looking for Marcus Rashford to be a proper number nine and I see him being the match-winner on the day.”

Chelsea FC won the Europa League title last season thanks to an emphatic 4-1 victory over Arsenal in the Baku final.
