Manchester United are eager to sign Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen to help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rebuild the Old Trafford club, according to a report in England.

The Evening Standard is reporting that the 20-time English champions are interested in a potential summer deal to sign the Denmark international from their top-four rivals.

The same article states that Man United should expect to face competition from Real Madrid, with the La Liga giants long-term admirers of the Tottenham playmaker.

According to the same story, both Manchester United and Real Madrid are confident a deal could be reached given Eriksen’s failure to commit to a new deal at the north London side.

The Evening Standard report goes on to add that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy would rather sell to Real Madrid rather than strengthen their Premier League rivals Man United.

Tottenham would be looking for a transfer fee in the region of £60m for the Danish midfielder if Spurs were to decide to cash in on the 27-year-old this summer, it is claimed.

Eriksen has scored seven goals and has made 12 assists in 32 games in the Premier League this season, while the Danish star has netted twice and created four goals in nine Champions League fixtures.

Tottenham signed Eriksen from their Champions League semi-final opponents Ajax in an £11m deal in 2013.
