Man United 0 Chelsea 0: David Moyes says the Red Devils wanted three points more after the Blues secured a point
David Moyes felt Manchester United wanted the victory more than Chelsea after the Blues secured a fighting point at Old Trafford.
The Blues had the best of the chances in the first half as United goalkeeper David De Gea was forced into a couple of routines saves to deny Chelsea midfielder Oscar.
After the interval, Frank Lampard appeared to block Tom Cleverley’s attempt with an arm but referee Martin Atkinson opted against pointing to the spot, while Danny Welbeck wasted an opportunity to test Petr Cech.
United trio Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Welbeck were left frustrated by Chelsea centre-half pair John Terry and Gary Cahill, but Moyes praised the effort of his players.
“I thought we played well. I’m disappointed we didn’t get a goal from it. We lacked a little bit of cutting edge with our final pass or final cross,” Moyes told Sky Sports.
“Chelsea defended well when they had to but I thought if anybody shaded the best chances, it was certainly us.
He added: “We went with three forward players on the pitch. We wanted to try and make sure we won the game.
“We did everything we could but just lacked maybe a ball to get Robin van Persie away to score, or a chance to set Danny Welbeck free.”
On Lampard’s handball, Moyes added: “Yes. It’s two in a week that Chelsea have had which have been good shouts.
“The referee gave a handball on Oscar just five minutes later which I felt was less a handball than the one in the box.”
