Man United 0 Newcastle 1: Alan Pardew hails his side's "magnificent" performance after sealing a famous win at Old Trafford
Alan Pardew hailed Newcastle United’s “magnificent” performance after they sealed victory at Manchester United for the first time in 41 years.
Yohan Cabaye fired home the only goal, moments after Patrice Evra hit the post for the champions, following a swift counter-attack by the visitors at Old Trafford.
The result condemned United to consecutive home defeats for the first time since 2002 and Pardew could not hide his delight at the final whistle.
“Forty-one years we’ve been waiting to win here as a club. It was a magnificent performance,” Pardew, whose side moved up to sixth place in the table, told BT Sport.
“I know we probably won’t get the headlines because of poor old United and David [Moyes] – it’s a difficult result for them.
“But we do deserve the headlines. The players were magnificent. I asked them to play very differently today to the way we’ve been winning, to keep the ball and control the game.
“We did that even to a level that I thought was good for us; we really kept the ball well and made it difficult for them. It’s a great day for Newcastle and our fans.
“I felt we had a good control of the game, they didn’t really have too many moments. Perhaps on the break was their biggest threat.”
