Manchester United

David De Gea Wasn’t called into action aside from a strong punch in the first half. 7/10

Chris Smalling Kept Cazorla quiet and kept Gibbs occupied for the majority of the match.

Nemanja Vidic Played well with Evans but was substituted at half-time after hitting his head. 6

Jonny Evans Handled the pressure of Arsenal’s attacks as they pushed for an equalizer. 7

Patrice Evra Defended with ease and supported United well in attack. 7

Antonio Valencia Was unable to get past Gibbs for much of the game but helped Smalling out in defence when required. 6

Phil Jones Shut Ozil out of the game and was strong in heart of United’s defence when he reverted to centre-half following Vidic’s substitution. 8

Michael Carrick Controlled the midfield with his precise passing and defended against Ozil and Ramsey well. 7

Shinji Kagawa Did well for the majority of the game as he linked up well with Van Persie and Rooney. 7

Wayne Rooney (Man of the match) Spent the game going from box-to-box, creating chances for his team-mates and defending well when he was called upon. 8

Robin van Persie Scored the goal that decided the game and was a constant threat before he was substituted. 8

Substitutes

Ryan Giggs Came on and helped his team defend and see out the win. 7

Tom Cleverley Settled into the game and sat in front of the defence to good effect. 6

Marouane Fellaini Made United more stable during the waves of Arsenal attacks in the last five minutes. 6

Arsenal

Wojciech Szczesny Could have commanded his box better for the goal but was not made to make a save to much in the game. 6

Bacary Sagna Received a yellow card in the first half for a foul on Evra and spent the rest of the game in danger of being sent off. 6

Laurent Koscielny Showed he is Arsenal’s strongest defender but definitely missed Per Mertasacker alongside him. 6

Thomas Vermaelen His first Premier League start since April and it showed. He was slow across the pitch and could not keep up with Van Persie. 5

Kieran Gibbs Tried to create chances for his team to equalise and did well to stop Valencia effecting the game. 6

Mikel Arteta His lack of pace showed early on as he could not keep up with Rooney or Kagawa and struggled to influence the game with his passing. 5

Mathieu Flamini Struggled to keep up with the pace of United’s attacks and was booked in the first half. Arsene Wenger took him off for Jack Wilshere in the second half, perhaps with the Frenchman’s caution in mind. 6

Aaron Ramsey The midfielder struggled to get any space as the United defence marked him out of the game. 6

Mesut Ozil His class did not shine through against the toughest opposition that the German has faced. Should have headed Arsenal back into the game but seemed to pull out of it. 5

Santi Cazorla He was frustrated on the left by Smalling and found no joy when he tried his luck through the middle. 6

Olivier Giroud Looked an isolated figure up front on his own. Needed more support from the Arsenal midfield but was unable to create anything meaningful. 5

Substitutes

Jack Wilshere Came on and tried to speed Arsenal’s play up but it was too little too late. 6

Nicklas Bendtner If there was any time to come on and prove his self this was it but yet again showed he is not Premier League quality. 5
