Man United 1 Real Sociedad 0: Player ratings as Wayne Rooney stars in a Red Devils win at Old Trafford
Manchester United
David De Gea David Moyes will be pleased with another solid performance from De Gea. Though he was not tested much, when called upon the Spanish stopper was solid. Having said that, he was almost beaten by Griezmann’s free-kick. 6/10
Rafael Da Silva Got forward well on occasions and almost had an assist for Rooney after good work down the wing. 6
Phil Jones Positive signs for United’s centre-half but probably should have doubled the home side’s lead after heading at Bravo from a few yards out. 5
Jonny Evans He showed grit and determination throughout and provided a key second-half block to keep Sociedad at bay. 6
Patrice Evra Went about his business quietly but did not feature in attack as much as he usually does. 5
Antonio Valencia The Ecuadorian featured throughout but should have scored after being put through and hitting the post. The winger also produced a number of useful deliveries from the flank. 6
Michael Carrick Not heavily involved but executed some neat passes as United’s passing game regained some composure. 5
Ryan Giggs Thought he set up Hernandez with a neat cross before the offside flag went up in the second-half. Still proved that he can mix it with Europe’s elite. 5
Shinji Kagawa Reminded Moyes of what he can do with glimpses of brilliance. Glided through the opposition but will be disappointed not to score. 6
Wayne Rooney (Man of the Match) Was by far United’s best player with a goal the only thing missing from his performance. However, his influence in Martinez’s goal was key and set the tone for his performance throughout. 7
Javier Hernandez Energetic but did not have many clear-cut opportunities before being replaced. 5
