Man United 2 Sunderland 1: We didn’t deserve to reach final, admits Moyes
Man United 2 Sunderland 1: David Moyes is in no mood to make excuses after his side are dumped out of the League Cup
David Moyes was in no mood to make excuses after his Manchester United side were dumped out of the League Cup by Sunderland on penalties.
The Red Devils levelled the semi-final 2-2 on aggregate thanks to Jonny Evans’s first-half header at Old Trafford.
Sunderland played well tonight and I’ve got no problem with them going through tonight, they deserved it

Sunderland looked to have booked their place in the final after David De Gea fumbled Phil Bardsley’s shot into his own net in the last minute of extra-time, but Javier Hernandez’s tap-in moments later forced penalties.
And Gus Poyet’s men triumphed 2-1 in the shoot-out after an astonishing total of seven spot kicks were missed.
“Sunderland played well and we didn’t play well on the night,” Moyes told Sky Sports. “We got back in it with the penalties but overall we didn’t play well enough.
“In a lot of games we have played well this season and we’ve not had the rewards, but we didn’t really deserve it tonight for how we played.
“I just didn’t think we really performed that well. When we did get the chances to maybe get a second goal we made the wrong decisions or didn’t finish it off.
“But as I said, Sunderland played well tonight and I’ve got no problem with them going through tonight, they deserved it.
“David [De Gea] been really good this season, but people do make mistakes and it’s a costly one because with a minute to go we would have got through. But that’s football for you and that’s the way it is just now.”
Asked about United’s four missed penalties, Moyes added: “That was really poor, I would expect better but again, these things do happen.”
