Michael Carrick has admitted he would like to finish his career at Manchester United after an impressive season at Old Trafford.

The 31-year-old midfielder has earned praise for one of his best campaigns since joining United in 2006, scoring one goal and making four assists in the Premier League.

And the England international would prefer to end his career on a high at a prestigious club like the Red Devils, as opposed to dropping to down a lower league.

“In an ideal world, of course [I’d like to finish my career with Manchester United],” Carrick told talkSPORT.

“Not many people walk away from this place. At the same time, I’m not 32 yet. Who knows. They might say time at some point ‘thank you, it’s time to move on’.

“I hope not because I love this place but we’ll have to see how it goes. I don’t think I would [drop down the leagues].

“I think I would probably just start coaching or something like that and try to help the younger lads out I don’t think I’d be one for dropping down the leagues. I’d prefer to go out near the top.”

Carrick has scored 20 goals in 307 appearances for United after completing a £14m move to the Red Devils from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006.
