Man United transfers: Cesc Fàbregas ‘looks calm and motivated’
Man United transfers: Xavi Hernández brushes off suggestions that Cesc Fàbregas could quit Barcelona to join the Red Devils
Xavi Hernández has brushed off suggestions that Cesc Fàbregas could quit Barcelona to join Manchester United this summer as nothing but “rumours”.
The Premier League champions have already had two bids for the former Arsenal captain rejected by the Catalan club, with United now said to be pondering tabling what would be a club-record £35m offer for the 26-year-old in the next few days.
Barcelona, however, have been consistent in their stance that the playmaker is not for sale at any price.
Now, his Barcelona and Spain team-mate Xavi has insisted that that Fàbregas looks “motivated” and feels like an important part of the club’s future plans.
“He seems calm and motivated to me,” Xavi told a news conference on Wednesday.
“There’s nothing to talk about. It’s just a press thing, it’s just rumours.
“He feels important, and that’s what he is and will continue to be.”
Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu is the latest club representative to deny that the Catalan outfit have any intention of cashing in on the midfielder.
He said: “It’s logical that we’ve had offers for Fàbregas because he is a quality player, but he is not for sale. Whatever offer United make, however big, we will say no. Cesc Fàbregas will stay a Barcelona player.
“That United shows interest in Cesc Fàbregas is normal. He is a truly great player, it doesn’t annoy us. It gives us pride to have such a good player in our team that United want him because they are a great club, but whatever offer arrives from them we are not going to sell Cesc Fàbregas. We are counting on him.”
