Man United transfers: Chelsea confirm Wayne Rooney bid
Man United transfers: Chelsea confirm their bid for Wayne Rooney - but deny Juan Mata or David Luiz were included in a proposed deal

Chelsea have confirmed that they made a bid for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney on Tuesday – but say no Blues player was offered in the proposed deal.
The west London side were reported to have offered defender David Luiz or Spaniard Juan Mata as a part-exchange, plus a speculated £10m, for the England international striker.
However, the Blues have emphatically quashed the suggestion that the Portugal international or Mata were part of any proposed package to bring the Red Devils forward to Old Trafford.
A Chelsea statement read: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm that yesterday it made a written offer to Manchester United for the transfer of Wayne Rooney.
“Although the terms of the offer are confidential, for avoidance of doubt and contrary to what is currently being briefed to the press in Sydney, the proposed purchase price does not include the transfer or loan of any players from Chelsea to Manchester United.”
Rooney has been heavily linked with a move away from the Premier League champions after Sir Alex Ferguson claimed he had rejected a transfer request from the striker back in May.
The 27-year-old scored a disappointing 12 goals in 27 Premier League appearances for the 20-time English top-flight winners last season.
