Manchester United chief executive David Gill says he is confident Wayne Rooney will still be at the Red Devils next season.

Sir Alex Ferguson revealed the England international had submitted a transfer request in a post-match interview following United’s victory over Swansea City earlier this month.

David Moyes, who was named as Ferguson’s successor, will be faced with the challenge of resolving the striker’s Old Trafford future amid reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

But Gill, who is set to leave United in the summer, reckons the 27-year-old United star will still be at the club for the start of the 2013-14 season.

“As Sir Alex said at his last press conference, that’s an issue for David Moyes. I’m confident he will be there next season,” said Gill.

“He’s a great, great player and the club doesn’t want to lose its star players.

“So I’m sure every bit of work is being taken with Wayne and his advisors and the club to make sure that happens.

“I’m not a betting man but I’m confident when I sit at Old Trafford next season I will see Wayne Rooney running out.”
