Man United transfers: Zlatan Ibrahimovic urges Wayne Rooney to move to Paris Saint-Germain if he decides to quit the Red Devils
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has urged Wayne Rooney to join Paris Saint-Germain if the striker decides to leave Manchester United.
The 27-year-old was heavily linked with a move away from the Red Devils during the summer transfer window after Chelsea failed with two bids for the England international.
Rooney has made an impressive start to the season as the United talisman netted his third Premier League strike in a surprise 2-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford last Saturday.
PSG were linked with a move for Rooney during the recent transfer window, and Sweden international Ibrahimovic would welcome the Englishman at the Ligue 1 champions.
“When there was talk of Rooney joining us in Paris it was a prospect that excited me,” Ibrahimovic is quoted as saying in the Sun.
“I think he made it clear in the summer that he wanted a fresh challenge – and things have not been going so well for Manchester United this season.
“If he still wants to move next summer, or in January, I would urge him to come and play with me in Paris. The only direction this club is going is up.”
While Ibrahimovic expressed his doubts whether Rooney could out-score him if the forward moved to PSG, the Swede insisted he would welcome a player of the United man’s ability.
“If he did join he would have to get used to the fact that Zlatan scores even better goals than him,” added Ibrahimovic.
“But I don’t just want to play with great players, I want to play with technically great players – and that is what he is.
“You can work on the technical side but it is not something you can be taught. You have it or you don’t and Rooney does.”
