Man United transfers: ‘Louis van Gaal doesn’t need to oversee major rebuild’
Man United transfers: Bryan Robson rubbishes the suggestion that the Red Devils need a major rebuild this summer
Bryan Robson has rubbished the suggestion that Manchester United need a major rebuild this summer.
The Red Devils appointed Netherlands head coach Louis van Gaal as Ryan Giggs’s successor last month in attempt to bounce back from a disappointing seventh-place finish last season.
Everyone keeps saying it needs to be a major rebuild – I just don’t see it like that
Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic left the 20-time English champions at the end of the season, whilst United legend Giggs called time on a distinguished career.
But former Red Devils captain Robson disagrees that Van Gaal needs to sign five or six players in order to give United a chance of competing for titles next season.
“Everyone keeps saying it needs to be a major rebuild – I just don’t see it like that,” Robson told Manchester Evening News.
“I think we have some great players within the squad. We need three or four top-class players.
“If Van Gaal can get those players, in the positions we need within the squad, I think we have a great chance of bouncing back from the disappointment of this season.
“He’s vastly experienced with big clubs across Europe so I can only see him doing a good job.”
