Nigel de Jong is happy at AC Milan despite interest from the Premier League, according to Wesley Sneijder.

The former Manchester City midfielder impressed in the World Cup group stage as the menacing midfielder helped the Oranje secure three successive victories to reach the knockout stage.

De Jong’s performances have prompted speculation that Holland head coach Louis van Gaal could bring the Milan man to Manchester United to bolster his midfield, whilst Inter Milan are reported to be interested, too.

However, Sneijder, who has also been linked with Chelsea, reckons the 29-year-old will remain in Milan despite the lure of a return to the Premier League.

“Nigel on the pitch? Maybe, we need his personality,” Sneijder said.

“I don’t know anything about the rumours linking him to Inter. What I do know is that I wanted to bring him to Inter two years ago, but then it didn’t happen.

“But now Nigel is happy at Milan and he will stay there.”

De Jong won the FA Cup and Premier League during a five-season stay at Etihad Stadium.
