Man United transfers: Sir Alex Ferguson expects Red Devils winger Nani to stay at Old Trafford beyond the summer

Sir Alex Ferguson says he expects Manchester United winger Nani to stay at Old Trafford beyond the summer.
The Portugal international has spent the majority of the club’s Premier League title-winning campaign on the fringes of the first-team squad.
The 26-year-old has scored once and made two assists in 12 top-flight appearances, prompting reports that he could be set to leave the 20-time English champions in the summer.
The former Sporting Lisbon winger has one year remaining on his current contract at the Red Devils and the club have yet to finalise a new deal with the midfielder.
But despite United snapping up Crystal Palace youngster Wilfried Zaha in the January transfer window, Ferguson is keen to keep Nani at the newly-crowned champions next season.
“There is no need for us to sell anyone. We have no plans to do that. That’s a fact,” Ferguson said.
“Nani played last week at Arsenal and I thought he did well.
“He is one of our squad players. When he is in form there are very few better than him. So I think we will bring him back in pre-season training and he will be all right.”
Ferguson also revealed there has been little progress in the negotiations between Nani and United officials over a new deal.
He added: “That is not my department. It is something David [Gill] and George Mendes [Nani’s agent] are working on. That is ongoing. But there is no progress as far as I know.”
